Officials say informant bought drugs twice

STATE COLLEGE -- Three men were arrested early Wednesday morning after undercover police said a confidential informant bought crack cocaine from them twice this month.
A detective with the State College Police Department and a state trooper with Troop G's Vice and Narcotics Unit began investigating the three when a confidential informant told them last week that he could buy crack cocaine from a man he knew, according court records.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the cases:
On Nov. 14, the informant brought the two undercover officers to meet 19-year-old Ramon "Five" Loyd, of 260 E. Ashmead St., Philadelphia, in the parking lot of Sam's Club on Benner Pike. The informant purchased one gram of crack cocaine from Loyd for $100.
Later that evening, according to court records, the two cops went to the informant's home and found Loyd sitting on the couch smoking a hollowed-out cigar filled with marijuana, known as a "blunt." A baby was sleeping on the couch next to Loyd, according to court records.
The investigators asked if Loyd had any powder cocaine, but Loyd said all he had was crack cocaine. The investigators left without buying anything, court records show.
On Nov. 19, the two cops conducted surveillance on the informant's home because the informant said Loyd and another man, Marquis "Boogie" Carr, 23, of 610 Cherry St., Williamsport, were selling cocaine -- both crack and powder -- from there. The affidavit shows that the cops saw several cars came and left after only a short visit inside the home.
The informant tried to set up another buy, this time from Darnell "D" Wright, 23, of 1914 15th Ave., Altoona, on Tuesday. Wright allegedly told him he had two grams of crack cocaine, according to court records. A later call to Loyd was placed in which Loyd allegedly said he had three or four grams of crack cocaine. The informant told him he'd be over with a friend to buy the drugs later that night, according to the affidavit.
Police accompanied the informant to the buy at 241 Independence Ave. and arrested the three men. Wright and Carr were in the living room, and Loyd was found hiding behind the shower curtain, according to court records.
All three men were searched and police said Wright had four baggies of crack cocaine, a baggie of marijuana and $300. Loyd had three and a half Xanax pills and $129, according to police. Carr had 21 small baggies of crack cocaine, police said.
Carr told police he'd planned to sell the crack cocaine and "double his money," according to the affidavit. He said he and Loyd had sold crack in State College on prior occasions. None of the three men had retained lawyers Wednesday night. All three remained in Centre County Correctional Facility -- Loyd on a $150,000 straight bail and Carr and Wright on a $100,000 straight bail each.
Their preliminary hearings are set for Nov. 30.
